AANES in Deir ez-Zor accuses Syrian government of striking stability
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Deir ez-Zor Civil Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) accused on Friday the Syrian government of striking security and stability of the region.
“The Syrian regime tries through ethnic and nationalist slogans to create a rift between the AANES and the people of the region,” the council said in a statement.
The council accused the Syrian government of hindering the progress of the “Operation Security Reinforcement” launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to pursue ISIS sleeper cells, drug traffickers, and vandals.
This came amid a military operation launched by the SDF with support of the US-led Global Coalition on Aug. 27 called “Security Reinforcement” to pursue ISIS sleeper cells and drug traffickers in Deir ez-Zor.
Following the launch of the operation, clashes erupted between the SDF and gunmen in Deir ez-Zor. The SDF stated that they engaged with ISIS militants, drug traffickers, and vandals.
On Aug. 30, the SDF announced the dismissal of commander of Deir ez-Zor Military Council, Ahmad al-Khabil, known as Abu Khawla, from duty, for his involvement “in multiple crimes and violations, including communication and coordination with external entities hostile to the revolution, committing criminal offenses and engaging in drug trafficking, mismanaging of the security situation, his negative role in increasing the activities of ISIS cells,” according to the SDF.
The Deir ez-Zor Civil Council added that the “desperate attempts” of the Syrian government will doom to failure. It called on the people of Deir ez-Zor to override the national interest and not to be drawn into the attempts of striking the stability and security of the region.
