US embassy in Syria confirms partnership with SDF
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Embassy of the United States of America in Syria confirmed on Thursday night the US ongoing partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in maintaining stability in Syria.
This came amid a military operation launched by the SDF with support of the US-led Global Coalition on Aug. 27 called “Security Reinforcement” to pursue ISIS sleeper cells and drug traffickers in Deir ez-Zor.
Following the launch of the operation, clashes erupted between the SDF and gunmen in Deir ez-Zor. The SDF stated that they engaged with ISIS militants, drug traffickers, and vandals.
The US Embassy in Syria expressed its “deeply concern” about the clashes that have been taking place in Deir ez-Zor since Aug. 27.
On Aug. 30, the SDF announced the dismissal of commander of Deir ez-Zor Military Council, Ahmad al-Khabil, known as Abu Khawla, from duty, for his involvement “in multiple crimes and violations, including communication and coordination with external entities hostile to the revolution, committing criminal offenses and engaging in drug trafficking, mismanaging of the security situation, his negative role in increasing the activities of ISIS cells,” according to the SDF.
The US Embassy in Damascus reiterated its focus on ensuring the enduring defeat of ISIS through its partnership with the SDF.
“We support ongoing efforts to maintain stability in the region and ensure all its people can coexist peacefully,” the US Embassy in Damascus tweeted.
