Unknown gunmen attack SDF, Asayish checkpoints in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown assailants attacked on Monday checkpoints of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source within the SDF said that unidentified gunmen targeted with machine guns an SDF headquarters in the town of al-Busayrah and the surrounding checkpoints, east of Deir ez-Zor.

Sporadic clashes that lasted for an hour erupted between the SDF and the assailants, forcing them to flee, according to the source.

The source also added that two Asayish checkpoints located at the entrance of the town of Abu Hamam and Gharanij in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor were also attacked with machine guns.

All of the attacks did not leave behind casualties.

The SDF announced on Sunday launching Operation Security Reinforcement against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Deir ez-Zor supported by the US-led Global Coalition.
