Unknown people kill group leader of government forces in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen targeted on Tuesday a leader of a group affiliated with the Syrian government forces in the countryside of Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, killing him immediately.
A local source informed North Press that Imad Issa Ayash, a leader of one of the groups affiliated with the Military Security Branch of the government forces in Daraa, was killed by unknown armed individuals on the road between the city of Dael and the town of Ibta in the countryside of Daraa.
The source added that Ayash was accompanied by a member of the group he leads and was injured. The injured member was transferred to the National Hospital in Daraa.
The source indicated that Ayash hails from Ibta and leads a group of young men from the town who joined the ranks of the Military Security Branch after the reconciliation agreement in July 2018.
In July 2018, the opposition armed faction and the government forces reached a ceasefire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa. Under the deal, the opposition armed factions agreed to hand over their heavy weapons in exchange for staying in Daraa, and those oppose the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of the HTS.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in line with the 2018 agreement, the governorate has been living in a state of security chaos, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
