Unknown assailants target government forces in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, one soldier of Syrian government forces was killed and another was injured in an armed attack that targeted their post in a town east of Deir ez-Zor Government, eastern Syria.

A military source of the government forces in the town of Abu Kamal, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, said that two assailants, riding a motorcycle, targeted a military post of the government forces near al-Tayara roundabout, at the entrance of the town.

The attack resulted in the killing of one soldier and the injury of another, causing military alert of the government forces, trying to pursue the attackers.

The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of the area of Syria and is distributed over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda, and Palmyra.

Iranian-backed militias and government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by the Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells.
