4 military personnel injured in quarrel in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Four military personnel of Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militia were injured on Saturday after a fight broke out between the two parties in the city of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the government forces in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that three military security personnel, affiliated with the government forces, were wounded by gunfire, while a militant of Usoud al-Sharqiya faction was also injured following a dispute that escalated into a gun battle near al-Jaz bakery in Deir ez-Zor.

The argument was initially between a soldier of the military security and another militant of the Usoud al-Sharqiya faction. The situation escalated when militants of the Usoud al-Sharqiya faction assaulted the military security soldier, resulting in a fierce altercation between the two parties.

The source further stated that the conflict was brought to an end by the intervention of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Crops (IRGC) and the National Defense Forces of the government forces. Additionally, the two members who were responsible for starting the fight were apprehended by the authorities for further investigation.

The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of the area of Syria, and is distributed over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda and Palmyra.

Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
