Iran executes Kurdish political prisoner
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iranian authorities executed on Wednesday a Kurdish political prisoner in Sanandaj Central Prison of Iran’s Kurdistan Province.
Reportedly, a day before, protests broke out ahead of the prison to prevent the execution of the 34-year-old Hayman Mostafaei.
Iran International, a TV headquartered in Washington DC, said, citing Free Union of Iranian Workers as saying, “The people of Sanandaj and a large crowd coming from Marivan gathered in front of the prison and did their best until the last moment to save Mustafaei’s life, but they took the life of another person.”
Mustafaei was accused of killing an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) member in 2012 and sentenced to death after being tortured to obtain a forced confession.
Recently, Iran has expedited the execution of detained citizens, as many of the people executed recently were accused of killing security forces, however, Iran has never opened any case to investigate the killing of protesters by security forces.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed concern over the increase in executions in Iran.
