ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – The Iraqi Security Media Cell (SMC) announced on Sunday the arrest of a senior Islamic State (ISIS) leader.
The SMC said in a statement that the detachments of the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency (FIIA) in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior were successful in capturing the so-called Wali of Tal Afar in a security operation carried out in the Baghdad Governorate.
Tal Afar is a district in the Governorate of Nineveh, located east of the Syrian border and north of the Shengal (Sinjar) District.
The operation was conducted after collecting “accurate intelligence information and the cooperation of citizens,” according to the statement.
According to documents noted by the SMC, the accused operated in “the most terrorist position” within Nineveh Governorate during battles to regain control over it from ISIS.
He also worked in the so-called “security of the Hodeidah area” and was still active in following up on sleeper cells in northern Baghdad.
The ISIS leader was referred to investigation according to provisions of Article IV of the Iraqi Anti-Terrorism Law.
