Unknown people attack tribal leader’s house in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown people targeted on Saturday a house of a leader of al-Uqaydat tribe using rocket shells and gunfire in a town, north of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
Ahmad al-Hussein, a resident of the town of al-Muweilih in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, said that more than seven unknown armed men targeted the house of Jamil al-Hefl Abu Azou, one of the leaders of the al- Uqaydat tribe, with two mortar shells and three rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) in al-Muweilih.
He told North Press that after the rocket attack, clashes with gunfire erupted between the two parties, forcing the assailants to flee towards the outskirts of the town.
Only material damage was reported, while the members of the tribe were mobilized to chase the attackers, according to al-Hussein.
On January 15, a member of al-Uqaydat tribe was shot by unknown gunmen who targeted his car in the town of al-Mari’iyah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The countryside of Deir ez-Zor continues to witness an increase in cases of assassination, targeting fighters of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), employees of the AANES, tribal leaders and civilians, despite the intensive security operations launched by the SDF.
