Anti-government leaflets spread in Syria’s Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Activists in the city of Suwayda, southern Syria, spread yesterday on Monday anti-government leaflets in the city streets.
A civil activist from Suwayda told North Press, “Anti-government leaflets, stressing the need to implement the UN Resolution No. 2254, spread in streets of Suwayda.”
The activist added that “these leaflets are the start for a peaceful uprising in case the government does not fulfill its promises to fulfill demands of the previous uprising.”
The activist, who preferred to stay anonymous, stressed that “the leaflets are a continuation for the peaceful uprising that took place weeks ago.”
On January 19, unknown persons spray-painted the word ‘traitor’ and called for a general uprising on the walls of schools and the post office in Hazem, a village north of Suwayda.
He went further adding that some demands were a matter of discussion between some activists, and political and societal figures in the governorate in order for the demands to be fulfilled, but so far the government has not made any of them come true or even improved living conditions of the residents.
The government, according to the activist, do not want to improve the citizens’ living conditions because “it seeks to starve and suppress the population of the governorate in order to force the young men to join the compulsory military service.”
