4 people killed in Syria’s Daraa in week
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Four people were killed, including a soldier of the Syrian government forces, in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, during the last week.
On May 28, residents found the body of Muhammad al-Matar on the vicinity of the town of al-Mezereeb, in the western countryside of Daraa.
The body was transported to the national hospital in the city of Tafas, in the western countryside of Daraa, ahead of handing it over to his family, a local source told North Press.
Al-Matar hails from the city of Nawa, in the western countryside of Daraa, and he was accused of drug trade, according to the source.
On the same day, residents found the body of Othman al-Zubie, who hails from Tafas, on the vicinity of al-Mezereeb.
On May 27, a local source told North Press that Baker al-Falah and Omar Khaldoun al-Shahin were killed due to an IED explosion that they intended to plant on a road near the village of al-Zabayer in Lajat area, east of Daraa.
Al-Shahin was a member of the Forth Armored Division of the government forces, according to the source.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
On May 26, unknown armed men shot dead a commander of an armed military group affiliated to the Forth Armored Division in the city of al- Sanamayn north of Daraa.”
In July 2018, the opposition armed factions and government forces reached a cease-fire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, the opposition armed factions agreed to hand over their weapons in exchange for staying in Daraa, and those who opposed the agreement they were sent to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front).
