Asayish pose siege on government forces in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) imposed on Thursday a siege on posts of Syrian government forces in the area of Qamishli airport, northeast Syria, calling the government forces to lift the siege they pose over neighborhoods in Aleppo and its northern countryside.

The northern countryside of Aleppo Governorate, also known as Shahba Region, houses IDPs of the Kurdish region of Afrin, northwest Syria, which was occupied by Turkey in 2018.

A military source told North Press that the Asayish prevent trucks of the government forces to enter or leave the area of the airport.

Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) calls the government forces to lift the siege it poses on Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud, in Aleppo city, and on areas of the northern countryside of Aleppo, the source added.

For nearly six months, the Syrian government has imposed a suffocating siege on the two neighborhoods of Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud, and areas of the northern countryside of Aleppo. The siege, which is placed on areas run by the AANES, has prevented the entry of fuel, baby formula, medicine, and other basic necessities, amid international calls to lift it.

The source said that the two parties are negotiating, as if they fail, the Asayish will expand the siege to other posts of the government forces in the city of Qamishli.
