Iran war plan to incriminate Trump in criminal investigation
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In a tape, ex-US President Donald Trump alleges that his former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen Mark Milley, pushed him to attack Iran. The tape also mentioned classified documents in Trump’s possession, CNN reported.
The CNN reported that the tape is of a July 2021 meeting at one of Trump’s golf clubs with two writers who were working on an autobiography of Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows, as well as presidential aides. Reportedly, the attendees did not have the necessary security clearance that would allow them access to classified information.
A New Yorker story written before the meeting alleged that Milley had prevented Trump from striking Iran. The General had been worried that the president “might set in motion a full-scale conflict that was not justified,” according to the piece.
Trump hit back in the July meeting, saying he had a four-paged document written by Milley containing a plan to attack Iran, “deploying massive numbers of troops, something he urged President Trump to do more than once during his presidency,” according to one of the attendees. A recording of the conversation suggests the president may have brought a printed out version of Milley’s report to the meeting.
The Justice Department is currently investigating Trump for mishandling of state security secrets, including taking hundreds of classified documents to his private residence.
Milley’s report, if it does exist, may be one such document. CNN reports that investigators have questioned Gen Milley about the incident.
Even as he fights several criminal charges in court, Trump is expected to run for president for a third time in 2024.
