ISIS carries out 2 attacks against SDF in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Islamic State (ISIS), through close outlets, claimed on Wednesday responsibility for targeting a checkpoint of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in a town east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
ISIS-run Amaq news agency said, in a statement, that the group’s militants targeted, with machineguns, an SDF checkpoint near the bridge of the town of al-Busayrah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The attack resulted in the wounding and killing of five SDF fighters, who were at the checkpoint, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, a military source in the SDF in the town indicated, via a phone call to North Press, that no attacks took place at the checkpoint.
The Amaq news agency said in another statement that the group militants targeted, with machine guns, a military vehicle of the SDF, near the village of al-Hilwa in the town of al-Busayrah, injuring one SDF fighter.
An SDF military source confirmed that a military vehicle was hit by gunshots by unknown gunmen, as a result one fighter was slightly injured.
The countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnesses increasing assassinations against SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribe leaders, and civilian population despite intensive security operations by the SDF and the Global Coalition.
ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.
After Baghouz, thousands of ISIS militants were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the AANES-held areas.
