Drones strike Russian capital

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – At least eight drones attacked Moscow in the early hours of May 30. According to the Russian defense ministry no-one was injured.

It is the first time the Russian capital has been targeted by multiple drones since the invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

The drones targeted the city shortly before 7 am local time. Russia’s defense ministry said three drones were brought down by electronic means, while the other five were downed by Pantsi-S surface-to-air missiles. Some buildings in Moscow were reportedly lightly damaged.

Ukraine has denied any responsibility for the strike. Its capital had been targeted by Russian drones the night before. At least one person had reportedly been killed.

Ukrainian officials say the country’s air defense intercepted at least 20 drones.

Russia’s Kremlin has been targeted by a drone in early May. Ukraine also denied any involvement in that attack.

On May 22, Russian anti-government groups launched a cross-border raid from Ukraine on the Russian region of Belgorod, capturing a few villages.
