Israeli missiles target Syria’s Damascus outskirts

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday at night, Israeli missiles hit the vicinity of the Syrian capital, Damascus, reporting no human losses.

The state-run SANA News Agency said, citing a military source, that “at around 23:45 p.m. on Sunday, the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial act of aggression with missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some sites in the vicinity of Damascus.”

The military source added that the Syrian Air Defense Forces intercepted the Israeli missiles and shot down some of them, SANA reported.

The Israeli attack resulted in only material losses, according to SANA.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the Israeli missiles attack targeted a base of the Syrian government Air Defense Forces holding militias of Lebanese Hezbollah in Hafir Al-Foka area in Rif Dimashq, al-Hama area and the area of Damascus International Airport.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes inside Syria over the past few years, targeting what it says to be Iranian-backed militia’s strongholds.

On May 2, Israel carried out missile attacks on the vicinity of Aleppo, killing one Syrian government soldier, wounding 7 others including two civilians, and putting Aleppo International Airport out of service.

Since early this year, Israel has targeted 21 point of the government forces and Iranian-backed militias in Syria, most of the attacks targeted Aleppo and Damascus governorates, according to Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press.

During April, Israel carried out 11 airstrikes on several Syrian areas, including the governorates of Homs, Damascus, Daraa and Qunaitra.
