Syrian delegation arrives in Jeddah ahead of Arab summit
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, an official Syrian delegation arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia to take part in the preparatory meetings preceding the Arab Summit, due on May 19.
The Syrian delegation, which consisted of Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad and Information Minister Butrus Halaq, was received by Mazin Hammad Alhimali, a diplomat at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On Wednesday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received a formal invitation from Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz to attend the upcoming Arab summit in Jeddah.
The invitation came three days after Arab foreign ministers made a decision to readmit Syria into the Arab League after more than a decade of suspension.
Upon his arrival at the airport in Jeddah, Mekdad said in a press statement, “The title of this summit is the joint Arab action and we are looking forward to the future.”
This is an opportunity to tell the Arab brothers that we do not look at the past, Mekdad said, adding that “there are many challenges to be discussed, including the Arab-Israeli conflict and the climate issue.”
