Turkish elections come to close

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The polls in Turkey closed at 5 pm local time to begin the counting process, which may last into the late hours of this evening.

Citizens in 81 Turkish governorates cast their votes to elect a new president and 600 members of parliament.

Preliminary results will be announced before midnight. Turkish media are scheduled to begin their count, which will begin at 9 pm.

So far, there has been no precise information on the proportion of voter turnout out of 64 million eligible voters.

The Turkish people at home and the world are awaiting the results of this watershed election, which may end two decades of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s rule.
