Officer dead, 4 injured in Damascus in IED blast claimed by ISIS

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Syrian Interior Ministry said that an officer was killed and four policemen were injured in a car explosion that took place near Barzeh Police Station in Damascus city earlier today.

The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack. ISIS-linked Amaq News Agency published a statement in which it said that a group of ISIS militants “managed to detonate an improvised explosive device that they had planted with a vehicle inside a police station in Masaken Barzeh, Damascus.”

The agency added that the blast resulted in destroying the vehicle, killing an officer and injuring four policemen, all of whom were inside.

This operation is the first claimed by ISIS in Damascus in more than two years in the Syrian capital.

This morning, the Interior Ministry of Syria announced that an officer and four soldiers were injured in a car explosion in the Barzeh Police Station in Damascus city.
