SDF captures ISIS cell operator in Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian democratic Forces (SDF) led a raid and captured a cell operator of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, the CSOJTF said on Thursday.

The Combined Special Operations Joint Task Force-Levant (CSOJTF) said in a statement that the SDF Commandos, advised, assisted, and enabled by the US-led Global Coalition forces to Defeat ISIS planned and successfully detained Suleiman Osman al-Hussein, an ISIS member who used to support the group’s operations on May 2.

“The successful planning and capture of al-Hussein aims to disrupt ISIS’ assassination abilities and reduce safe havens in the Middle Euphrates River Valley,” the CSOJTF added.

“Coalition Forces are committed to advising, assisting, and enabling its partners to maintain security and stability throughout the region,” the statement read.

ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.

After Baghouz, thousands of ISIS fighters were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas.
