Iran’s president pays first visit to Syria since 2011

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived on Wednesday in Damascus International Airport in a two-day official visit to Syria, state-run SANA news agency reported.

SANA reported that Raisi accompanied by a ministerial political and economic delegation, including Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian; Minister of Roads and City Construction, Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee, Mehrdad Bazar Bash; Defense Minister, Mohammad Reza Ashtiani; Minister of Petroleum, Javad Owji; Minister of Communication, Issa Zarepour; Secretary and Head of the presidential administration of Iran, Gholam Hossein Ismaili; Representative of Iranian Islamic Shura Council, Abbas Kalro; and Deputy presidential chief of staff for political affairs, Mohammad Jamshidi.

Raisi is scheduled to hold expanded political and economic talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, followed by signing a number of agreements, according to the source.

A day earlier, in an interview with al-Mayadeen TV. Channel, Raisi described his country’s relations with Syria as “strategic and deep”, and stressed that his visit to Syria comes in the framework of consolidating these relations.
