SDC ready to deal with new Turkish government

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the leader of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) expressed their readiness to deal with the new Turkish government that will come to power after the May 14 election.

On March 10, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan officially announced May 14 as the date for the parliamentary and presidential elections – a month earlier than scheduled.

Erdogan seeks to win a third term in power amid an economic crisis that is sweeping Turkey due to rising inflation, military interventions in neighboring countries, and the recent devastating earthquake which has killed more than 50,000, and caused hundreds of thousands of families to become homeless in 11 states.

Ilham Ahmed, President of the Executive Committee of the SDC said in a tweet in Kurdish and Arabic languages that the SDC is “ready to deal with the new government based on providing safety, peace, and solutions.”

Ahmed added, “the current [Turkish] government invested in Syrians in favor of its power. Until this moment, it indicates that it is seeking to get rid of them after the elections.”

The SDC president hopes that the election “will establish a government that believes in peace and dialogue towards solving problems in the region.”

The SDC is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It was founded in 2015 and includes all the communities of North and East Syria.
