Diplomats from Syria, Turkey, Russia, Iran to meet in Moscow

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Monday that defense and intelligence chiefs from Syria, Turkey, Russia, and Iran will meet in Moscow on Tuesday.

TASS reported, citing Akar as saying, “Our goal is to find a solution to the existing issues through talks and ensure peace and tranquility in the region as soon as possible.”

The Turkish minister also ensured that positive events are expected to take place following the meeting.

Turkey’s efforts to normalize relations with Syria have developed over the past few months. Late in December 2022, a trilateral meeting took place between the defense ministers of Turkey, Syria and Russia in Moscow, marking the first high-level meeting between Syria and Turkey since the onset of the Syrian war in 2011.

In early April, Deputy of foreign ministers of Syria, Russia, Iran and Turkey agreed on establishing a joint trilateral meeting of Syria, Turkey and Russia at the level of Foreign Ministers, as the agenda will include the issue of negotiations between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
