ISIS claims attack on SDF checkpoint in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Islamic State (ISIS), through close outlets, claimed responsibility on Wednesday for targeting a checkpoint of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)  in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, a governorate eastern Syria.

ISIS-run Amaq news agency said in a statement that militants of the group targeted an SDF checkpoint with machineguns at the entrance to the town of al-Hariji in al-Suwar district , 70 kilometer north pf Deir ez-Zor.

The news agency claimed that the attack resulted in the wounding of a number of the SDF fighters, as the ISIS militants returned safe.

On April 17, ISIS claimed responsibility for targeting a military vehicle of the SDF in a town south of Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria.

ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.

After Baghouz, thousands of ISIS militants were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas.
