US official announces conducting raid against ISIS militants in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US forces conducted a raid against ISIS militants in northwest Syria on Sunday, a US official said.

Three were killed in the operation, and the US is assessing their identities, the official added. “There were no US casualties.”

“The raid resulted in the probable death of a senior ISIS Syria leader and operational planner responsible for planning terror attacks in the Middle East and Europe,” US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesman Joe Buccino told ABC News in a statement.

Earlier in April, the CENTCOM carried out a “unilateral strike” in Syria killing a senior ISIS leader called Khalid Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri who it said was responsible for planning attacks in Europe, and developing ISIS’ leadership network.

“The death of Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri will temporarily disrupt ISIS’ ability to plot external attacks,” a release from CENTCOM said at the time.

There are roughly 900 US troops in Syria who are supporting the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in their effort to defeat ISIS in the region. They have killed or captured several ISIS leaders in the country.
