Unknown gunmen kill 5 shepherds in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Five shepherds were killed on Sunday at the hands of unknown people in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A local source in the town of Bokres, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, said, “Unknown armed men in a van targeted shepherds near the town with machineguns.”

Militants of the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun were accused of the attack, because they have a military post near the site of the incident, in addition, eyewitnesses saw their car fleeing towards the post, the source added.

Recently, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing an increase in assassination operations, targeting Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters, Autonomous Administration employees, clan dignitaries and civilians, as Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for most of them.

In addition, since early 2023, dozens of shepherds and truffle hunters were killed at the hands of unknown gunmen in the western and eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
