HTS targets government forces in Syria’s Hama, Aleppo

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly known as al-Nusra Front), targeted on Friday posts of Syrian government forces in the countryside of Aleppo, northern Syria, and Hama, central west the country.

A military source of the Syrian opposition told North Press that the HTS targeted posts of the government forces on the outskirt of the towns of Orem al-Kubra, west of Aleppo; and al-Sermania, west of Hama.

Six soldiers of the government forces were killed and six others were injured, in addition a tank was destroyed west of Idlib Governorate, northern Syria, according to the source.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment between Syrian government forces and opposition factions accompanied by Russian warplanes’ flight despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.

In April 13, an officer and a soldier of the government forces were killed in mutual attacks between Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka Syrian National Army (SNA), and the government forces as shelling in southern Idlib and western Aleppo continued.
