Casualties in clashes between SDF, government forces in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, clashes erupted between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian government forces in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, leaving casualties from both parties.

The clashes resulted in the killing of two soldiers of the government forces’ Fifth Corps – backed by Russia – and the injury of three others. A fighter of the SDF was injured, too.

A military source of the SDF in the town of Jadeed Ekedat, east of Deir ez-Zor, said that heavy clashes erupted on Wednesday night and continued periodically till Thursday morning on contact lines between the SDF and the government forces near the town of al-Tabiya/Jazira in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The source added that both the SDF and the government forces advanced large military reinforcements to the clash’s site.

The periodic clashes are still ongoing amid intensive over-flight of the Global Coalition in the region.

The Russian-backed Fifth Corps controls the town of al-Tabiya/Jazira in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, in addition to six neighboring towns.
