ISIS claims 2 attacks against SDF, Iraqi army

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed on Monday two operations; one against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the other against the Iraqi army.

The ISIS-run Amaq news agency said the group’s militants shot to death a fighter of the SDF, using machine guns, in the town of Jadeed Bakkarah, east of Deir ez-Zor.

However, the SDF yet to comment on the incident.

On April 9, ISIS claimed an attack on a checkpoint of the SDF at the entrance of the town of Darnaj, east of Deir ez-Zor.

In Iraq, the group said its fighters managed to detonate an IED with a 4×4 vehicle in al-Mas neighborhood in Kirkuk city, vandalizing it and injuring those on board.

Although the SDF launches intensive security operations, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures and civil residents.

The SDF keeps pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside with the aim to maintain security and stability of the region.

ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.
