KRI’s Sulaymaniyah protests against recent Turkish shelling

ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – The city ofSulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) witnessed on Sunday a protest with hundreds of residents condemning the recent Turkish attack on the Sulaymaniyah International Airport two days ago.

The protest was organized on the back of the attack that was carried out by a Turkish drone, targeting the airport in tandem with a flight picking the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander in Chief, Mazloum Abdi, in the framework of the joint coordination in the war against Islamic State (ISIS).

Hundreds of residents participated in the protest that set off from Salem Street in the city center, and they raised flags of the KRI.

The protesters also raised banners, saying “Sulaymaniyah will not accept this terrorist assaults” in a reference to the recent attack.

They chanted slogans, condemning the recent Turkish attack and the endless series of previous attacks including the ongoing airstrikes on the KRI border areas.

The protesters called on the international community to intervene to stop the Turkish assaults and unify the Kurdish stance towards the attacks the hit the KRI’s sovereignty.

I was in the convoy that included personnel of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and the Sulaymaniyah-headquartered Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) when we were attacked, General Abdi said on Saturday.

The suspected Turkish attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) on Friday intentionally missed the target because a ground convoy is generally not a difficult target to strike, Mick Mulroy, Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, told North Press on Sunday.
