Landmine blast kills 11 individuals in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, 11 truffle hunters were killed in a landmine explosion most likely left by Islamic State (ISIS) that exploded in a car that was picking them in the western desert of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town of Ayyash in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor said, “A landmine exploded in a car that was picking truffle hunters on their way to search for truffles near Jebel Bishri, in the western desert of Deir ez-Zor.”

The car owned by Muhammad al-Abed, a resident of Ayyash, according to the source.

The source added that the explosion claimed the life of the driver and ten others who were in the car.

Despite persistent calls for removing remnants of war, recently many civilians lost their lives due to the war remnants that widely spread in the desert of Deir ez-Zor countryside.

Six people were killed on Saturday in a landmine explosion while hunting for truffles in the Sukhnah desert in the eastern countryside of Homs, central Syria.
