Catalonia to introduce resolution to deal directly with the AANES
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a delegation of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), met with representatives of the Catalan parliament in Barcelona.
The delegation, which included Jwan Mustafa, co-chair of the AANES Health Board and the AANES representative in Belgium, Faiq Omar, was received by Jordi Albert, a lawmaker for the ruling Republican Left party; Francis Damlasez, a lawmaker for the Catalan Solidarity Party and the Foreign Relations Official in the Catalan parliament; Akarlis Riera, a lawmaker for the CUP party; and the health official in the Catalan parliament, Loria Lozano.
According to North Press’ exclusive source, the Catalan parliamentary delegation promised to pass a resolution that would enable Catalonia to collaborate with the AANES directly, on a “state-to-state” basis.
Jwan Mustafa described the promises he received relating to the health sector in northeast Syria as “positive.”
In October 2021, the Catalan parliament recognized the AANES as a political entity. It was the first sub-national legislature to do so. The resolution called on Catalonian institutions on all levels to develop relations with northeast Syria. In the same session, the parliament also voted in favor of establishing economic ties with the AANES.
Mustafa is set to visit the Basque Country today, March 5.
