Landmine blast kills individual in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, an individual lost his life in a landmine explosion that was most likely left by Islamic State (ISIS) in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town of Sabikhan in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor said “Thaer al-Hanan” was killed in a landmine explosion left over by ISIS while searching for his brother and relatives, who went missing two days ago in the Deir ez-Zor Desert while herding their sheep.

Residents of the region appeal to international organizations and community to remove the landmines that daily claims dozens of lives in different areas in Deir ez-Zor and its countryside.

On Tuesday, residents of the town of Sholah south of Deir ez-Zor found three bodies belonging to people from the town who went missing on March 20 while working in truffles hunting near Jebel Bishri between Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa.
