US airstrike kills senior ISIS leader in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Monday the killing of a senior Islamic State (ISIS) leader in Syria.

In a statement, the CENTCOM revealed that their forces carried out a “unilateral strike, killing Khalid ‘Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri.”

“Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri was responsible for planning ISIS attacks into Europe and developed the leadership structure for ISIS,” the statement added.

Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla, CENTCOM commander, said “ISIS continues to represent a threat to the region and beyond.”

“Though degraded, the group remains able to conduct operations within the region with a desire to strike beyond the Middle East,” Kurilla added.

Regarding the casualties, the CENTCOM noted that “no civilians were killed or injured in this strike.”

The death of Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri “will temporarily disrupt ISIS’ ability to plot external attacks.”

The CENTCOM stressed that their operations, alongside with “partners in Syria and Iraq”, against ISIS will continue, as well as they will “remain committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS.”
