DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Mekdad has arrived in Cairo on Saturday to hold talks with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in the first visit since the beginning of the Syrian war in 2011.
Egyptian media said Mekdad arrived in Cairo on a plane from the Syrian capital, Damascus, and was received at the visitors’ hall.
Arab media said on Friday that the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad is scheduled to visit Egypt soon to meet the Egyptian president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Last month, Shoukry visited Damascus and met with the Syrian president in the wake of the devastating February 6 earthquake.
After meeting with al-Assad, Shoukry held talks with his Syrian counterpart at the Syrian Foreign Ministry.
