Russia, Iran to sign long-term strategic agreement
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Russian and Iranian foreign ministers discussed preparations for signing a long-term strategic agreement, in addition to other issues related to the Iranian nuclear file and war in Ukraine.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-abdollahian met with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on an official visit to Moscow that focused particularly on economic and security relations.
Amir-abdollahian said, in a joint press conference, after their meeting, that various cases of relations between the two countries in the economic, commercial, political, cultural and tourism, security and defense fields have been fully activated and both sides expressed their satisfaction with the progress of relations in all these sectors in line with the interests of the two nations.
Abdollahian revealed readiness to sign a long-term agreement between Moscow and Tehran.
During the press conference, the Iranian foreign minister also revealed that the deputy foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, Syria and Turkey will hold a meeting in Moscow next week.
On March 23, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that Russia is coordinating with Syria, Iran, and Turkey on a schedule for a meeting at the level of their deputy foreign ministers.
Iranian Foreign Minister said that Tehran hopes that the foreign ministries of Iran and Russia will finalize a draft agreement on comprehensive partnership between the countries next month.
In turn, Lavrov said “we talked about the situation around the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear program. We have a common understanding that there is no alternative to this international agreement.”
Russia and Iran are in the final stages before this agreement is signed, Lavrov added.
