Qatar announces support for Jordanian initiative regarding Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) –  On Friday, Qatar announced its support to the Jordanian initiative for a solution in Syria that is based on a direct Arab role to engage with the Syrian government in a political dialogue aimed at resolving the crisis and addressing its humanitarian, security, and political impacts.

Spokesperson of the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid bin Mohammad al-Ansari, was cited by the Qatar News Agency as saying, “Qatar supports all initiatives aimed at finding comprehensive peace in Syria, and supports all Arab and international efforts in this regard.”

Al-Ansari added that there are many initiatives that have been launched and that Qatar is involved in many of them aimed primarily at achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people.

He went further noting that Qatar’s position on the Syrian crisis depends on two main factors, the first is that the Syrian government fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people for a political solution and under the Geneva 1 statement, and the second is the Arab consensus on these moves.

Jordan intends to launch a new initiative to find a political solution for Syria, the Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi revealed last year. It is reportedly based on a direct engagement of Arab states with the Syrian government in a political dialogue, aimed at resolving the crisis and addressing its humanitarian, security, and political implications.
