SDF condemns drone attack on US base in NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) General Command condemned on Friday a recent drone attack on a joint base with the US-led Global Coalition in northeast Syria that resulted in casualties of the US troops and a contractor.
The SDF said in a statement a drone attack on Thursday resulted in the killing of a US contractor and the wounding of five US service members.
The statement added that the town of Diban in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, was also targeted with ten missiles that were fired from areas held by the Syrian government on the west bank of the Euphrates River.
Two missiles hit a house belonging to a civilian and resulted in the wounding of a woman and her daughter, according to the SDF statement.
The SDF General Command extended condolences to the US contractor’s family and wished a speedy recovery to wounded.
It stressed the need to spare the civilians and individuals that are not involved in fighting from the effects of hostilities and not hindering the war against the Islamic State (ISIS).
The statement confirmed the SDF commitment to continue the joint fight with the Global Coalition against the “terrorist” group and its “criminal ideology” until enduring defeat of ISIS is reached.
On Thursday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced conducting a strike against facilities used by groups affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Syria in response to an Iranian drone attack on a US base.
