Outrage continues in Jindires over killing of four civilians
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – The Jindires Cemetery witnessed on Tuesday a protest by residents of Jindires town, northwest Syria, during the burial of the Kurdish people who were killed a day earlier by Jaysh al-Sharqiya, a faction affiliated with the Turkish-backed opposition’s Syrian National Army (SNA).
North Press correspondent said, “The residents of Jindires raised banners denouncing the ongoing oppression against Kurds over the past five years, since the Turkish-backed SNA took control of the region.”
“The Kurdish residents said that they have been prevented from celebrating their festivals since the Turkish incursion in March 2018, describing what happened last night as the most violent and harmful in years,” he added.
On Monday, Jaysh al-Sharqiya killed four Kurdish civilians and injured others in Jindires countryside while they were lighting fire to celebrate Newroz, which is a symbolic national holiday for Kurds.
Thousands of Jindires and nearby villages poured took to the streets demanding perpetrators be held accountable and the exit of SNA factions from the region.
