Iran’s president “welcomes” invitation by Saudi king to visit Riyadh
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – An Iranian official revealed on Sunday that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi had received an invitation from Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to visit the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
This comes in the wake of the Chinese-mediated reconciliation agreement that took place between the two countries on March 10. The deal stipulated restoring bilateral relations which have been severed for seven years.
Mohammad Jamshidi, the Iranian president’s deputy chief of staff for political affairs, tweeted that the King of Saudi Arabia sent a letter to the Iranian leader in which he welcomed the deal between the two “brotherly countries”.
In the letter, Salman bin Abdulaziz invited Raisi to Riyadh and “called for strong economic/regional cooperation.”
For his part, “Raisi welcomed the invitation and stressed Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation.”
Earlier today, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that the two regional powers had agreed to hold a meeting between their foreign ministers, adding that Tehran was ready for the mutual reopening of embassies.
