QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Head of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani mourned on Friday the “martyrdom” of nine fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in a helicopter crash in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

Talabani said on his Facebook account, “The martyrdom of Commander (Sharvan Kobane) the commander of the anti-terrorist forces of the west and eight other friends, made us worried from the heart.”

SDF Commander in Chief Mazloum Abdi mourned earlier on Friday the lose of life of the nine Counter-Terrorism Units (YAT) fighters in the KRI.

On Friday, the SDF Media Center announced that nine Counter-Terror Units (YAT) fighters lost their lives while heading to the KRI in the course of joint work against Islamic State (ISIS).

Talabani confirmed the YAT’s key role in fighting ISIS militants in “the west and the holy land of Kurdistan…and recorded a history full of freedom.”

Head of the PUK extended condolences to the SDF Commander in Chief, Counter-Terror Units, and “all people of Kurdistan especially the citizens of Western Kurdistan.”

In December of 2022, US Commander of Combined Joint Task Force–Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) Matthew W. McFarlane, and PUK head Bafel Talabani were received by the SDF Commander in Chief in his headquarters in Hasakah, northeast Syria.
