Armed men attack government posts in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday evening, armed men targeted several military posts of the Syrian government forces north of Daraa, a governorate south Syria, prompted by the arrest of a lady in the capital Damascus.
A local source told North Press that armed men from the city of al-Sanamayn in the northern countryside of Daraa attacked the government military posts in the city in response to the arrest of a lady from al-Sanamayn while she was in a hospital in Damascus.
The source added that fierce clashes erupted between the two parties for over an hour in which the government forces used machineguns and RPGs.
The government forces also fired illumination flares with the aim to detect the armed men’s moves, according to the source.
Two days ago, the government forces arrested Sanaa al-Kayed while she was visiting her husband, who was shot by his brother over a family dispute, in a hospital in Damascus.
In July 2018, the opposition armed faction and the government forces reached a ceasefire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa. Under the deal, the opposition armed factions agreed to hand over their heavy weapons in exchange for staying in Daraa, and those oppose the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of the HTS.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in line with the 2018 agreement, the governorate has been living in a state of security chaos, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
