Iran arrests 100 person on charges of poisoning schoolgirls
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Iranian Ministry of Interior announced, on Sunday, the arrest of 100 individuals on charges of involving in poisoning incidents of students in several provinces in Iran.
Over 140 Iranian civil and political activists wrote a letter to the UN Secretary-General demanding an immediate investigation into the incidents that occurred in girls’ schools and the condition of the victims of these attacks.
According to Iran International, activists signed a letter that explained how chemical gas was used to poison school students to “repress and distract citizens from political, social, and economic crises in the country.”
Latest reports from provinces of Tehran, Qom, Zanjan, Khuzestan, Hamadan, Fars, Gilan, Western Azerbaijan, Eastern Azerbaijan, Kordestan, and Razavi Khorasan suggest that authorities claimed that they recognized and investigated over 100 individuals.
Iranian authorities said, according to preliminary investigations, several incidents were plotted by individuals who meant harm and wanted to close schools, and under the psychological influence of others, decided to use ” foul smelling and harmless substances.” These individuals are under investigation to reach an outcome.
The authorities said the individuals behind these incidents ” meant to cause fear and panic among the people to shut down schools and cast the blame on the regime,” indicating their possible connection with “terrorist” organizations.
Last week, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi ordered the formation of an investigation team regarding the recent schoolgirls “poisoning,” describing what happened as a ” conspiracy by the enemy.”
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also called for exemplary punishments for those involved in the poisoning.
Iranian opposition websites said “chemical” attacks targeted about 200 schools across the country last week, which led to the hospitalization of dozens of students.
