Syrian government politicizes quake aid – AANES

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Saturday that the Syrian government politicizes humanitarian aid and neglects all disaster zones impacted by Feb. 6 earthquake.

This came in a statement by the AANES at al-Tayha crossing, west of the city of Manbij, northern Syria, after four days of waiting for the passage of a convoy of humanitarian aid coming from Sulaymaniyah, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), that the Syrian government banned its entry to the AANES-held areas.

On March 7, the AANES Social Affairs and Labor Board received an aid convoy meant for earthquake-affected people from residents of the Sulaymaniyah.

The Syrian government and parties controlling northwest Syria inhibit aid delivery provided from northern Syria or other countries to disaster areas, according to the statement.

The AANES formed a crisis management cell to address the needs of the quake-impacted people and put all disputes and contradictions aside, as well as, it wanted to help all the impacted people without discrimination, the statement read.

The AANES called on all international organizations and institutions and international community to put pressure on the Syria government to allow the delivery of aid into the region.
