Member of Iran’s militia killed in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a member of the Iranian-backed militias was killed by unidentified gunmen in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A military source said that unknown gunmen riding a motorbike, opened fire on a vehicle belonging to Liwa Abu al-Fadhal al-Abbas – Iranian-backed militia – in the countryside of the town of al-Masrab, west of Deir ez-Zor.

The source added that the incident resulted in the killing of a member of the militia, however, the attackers managed to escape.

Such attacks are usually carried out by the Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells, which continue to attack the government forces and Iranian-backed militias in the Syrian Badia by planting IEDs and setting ambushes.

On Jan. 23, the Syrian government forces found the bodies of militants of Iranian-backed militias who were arrested a few days ago by attackers bearing flags of ISIS in the town of al-Masrab, west of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
