DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A fighter of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was wounded on Saturday in an attack by unidentified gunmen, likely operatives of the Islamic State (ISIS), on an SDF checkpoint in the town of al-Shuhail in eastern Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

An SDF source told North Press, “Unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire using machine guns on an SDF checkpoint near the al-Attal roundabout near the entrance of al-Shuhail town, east of Deir ez-Zor.”

“The attack injured Ibrahim al-Khalaf, who was taken to al-Omar military hospital to receive treatment. He is in a critical condition,” the source said citing a doctor at the hospital.

On Thursday, ISIS claimed responsibility for an attack against an SDF checkpoint at the town of al-Sabha in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
