ISIS Landmines kill government soldier, civilian in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, a soldier of the Syrian government forces and a civilian lost their lives in explosion of two landmines, most likely left by Islamic State (ISIS), in the southern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

A military source of the government forces in Deir ez-Zor said Youssef al-Badran, a member of the 17th Division of the government forces, was killed in a landmine explosion of ISIS remnants while he was travelling around in Sholah Desert in the southern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

Khalaf al-Khelief also was killed in a landmine explosion while chasing truffles in Ayyash Desert, according to local sources.

Landmines and war remnants, since early 2023, have harmed 215 people, of which 80 were killed and injured in Deir ez-Zor, according to the Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press.

On March 1, six people were killed and 40 others were injured by a blast from an old ISIS mine. The victims had been searching for truffles in in the village of Kabajib south of Deir ez-Zor Governorate.
