140 people rescued from under quake wreckage in Aleppo

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – About 140 people were rescued from under rubble of collapsed buildings due to the February 6 earthquake that struck Aleppo Governorate, as the search for six others continues, sources from Aleppo Municipality said on Thursday.

On February 19, Aleppo Governor Hussein Diyab said the earthquake resulted in 432 deaths, 714 injuries, six missing, 54 collapsed buildings, and more than 13,000 affected families in the government-held areas.

The sources told North Press that about 13.039 families returned to their houses after ensuring their integrity and others were informed that they could return to their houses after checking the safety of 8.684 buildings.

The Syrian government has declared the areas worst affected by the February 6 earthquakes – Latakia, Hama, Aleppo and Idlib – as “disaster zones.” 

At dawn on February 6, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and Syria, killing 44.000 individuals. It also caused the destruction of hundreds of buildings, leaving many homeless.
