60 Aftershocks Recorded following New Earthquake – NEC Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s National Earthquake Center (NEC) recorded 60 aftershocks following the new earthquake that hit on Feb. 20.
On Feb.20 at 20:04 local time, a new 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and Syria with Iskenderun being the epicenter and was felt in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Antakya in south Turkey.
The director of Syria’s National Earthquake Center (NEC), Raed Ali Ahmad, told a local radio station that all Syrian cities were affected by the new earthquake which was an aftershock of the major Feb. 6 earthquake.
The Center posted on Facebook that aftershocks were centered in Iskenderun, Turkey and west of Latakia.
The new quake sparked panic among the people of the affected regions, especially since it occurred two weeks after the devastating Feb. 6 that hit both Syria and Turkey. Heart attack and death cases were registered as a result of fear in Syria.
On February, 6, devastating earthquakes hit southern Turkey and northwest Syria, killing thousands and injuring much more, in addition to devastating thousands buildings under which thousands were trapped.
