Vigil in Suwayda rejects government’s dealing with earthquake
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the Suwayda Governorate, south Syria, organized on Tuesday a vigil to reject the Syrian government’s approach in dealing with the Feb. 6 earthquake and its fallout.
The protesters raised placards expressing their solidarity with the earthquake-hit governorates and criticized the politicization of aid and the delay in delivering it to affected people.
One of the protesters said that these banners came as a response to the recent speech by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “in which he talked about the earthquake and the disaster zones without mentioning Idlib Governorate, which is one of the most affected by the quake.”
On Monday, government supporters organized a rally at the al-Karama roundabout. They raised pictures of al-Assad and called for lifting sanctions on Syria.
